The New Black Leaders of America Scholarship is awarded to emerging high school seniors and GED candidates who are excelling in their studies and plan to give back to their communities.
Awards
- A one-time $500 stipend per recipient
- Two recipients chosen for the 2020 award
Eligibility
- Be a Atlanta Public School (APS) high school senior or GED candidate of African descent (i.e. African American, Jamaican, Ethiopian, etc.)
- Be a US citizen
- Currently applying to 2 year or 4 year colleges or trade school
- Cumulative GPA of 2.7 or higher
- Demonstrate leadership at school or in the community
Requirements
- Official APS transcript or GED Diploma
- One letter of recommendation (Teachers, community leaders, managers, etc.)
- Responses to the following essay questions (300 word limit each):
- What are your goals after graduating high school?
- Being a leader requires you to be a servant first. (1) How do you currently serve your community/behave as a leader? (2) How do you plan on serving your community in the future?

How do I apply for The New Leaders of Black America Scholarship?
Step 1: Apply to a College, University, or Trade School
In order to apply for a New Leaders of Black America Scholarship you have to apply to a College, University, or Trade School. Complete the appropriate application process for your institution. To receive the scholarship, you will need to provide your acceptance letter.
Step 2: Apply to The New Leaders of Black America Scholarship
You will need to complete a New Leaders of Black America Scholarship application, which can be accessed here.
Step 3: Await Confirmation of Application Receipt
We will process your application and make a determination of your eligibility. You can use the time to prepare and look into the courses that interest you at your institution.
Step 4: Award Selection
Once the selection has been made the recipient(s) will receive a letter notifying them about their scholarship award and provide guidance on next steps.
